2014 WSBL Champions - Then & Now

Flash back to the Champion WSBL team for 2014.

It was fantastic to see so many of the team back on court one more time!

A great celebration for a key moment in our club's proud history with many of our past contributors, from both on and off the court in attendance.

Special thanks to Frame It 4U for framing a very special piece of club history.

And, thank you to our 2014 Winning SBL Women's team for joining us as special guests and sharing in our presentation of the winnings seasons memorabilia, which will be proudly displayed in our club rooms.

The Rockingham Flames look forward to hosting our club's former players, coaches, volunteers, staff & board at further events throughout the season as we look to recognise those that have made the Flames the club we are today.

Keep an eye out for future events on our social media and Flames website!

Petrik Re-Signs As The Men's NBL1 Coach

You won't find anyone with better coaching credentials in Western Australia than Ryan Petrik and nor will you find anyone more passionate about the Rockingham Flames, and he couldn’t be more delighted to take on a full-time role with the club he holds dear.

Petrik has spent his lifetime in basketball with the Rockingham Flames and it's where he has enjoyed enormous success as a coach firstly in the women's program winning championships in 2014 and 2015.

The next goal became to win a first championship in the men's competition and Petrik achieved that dream by both leading the Flames to the NBL1 West and National Championships in 2022.

The fire burns deep now to continue coaching the Rockingham men's team in the NBL1 West competition especially after the frustration of going so close but falling just short of winning both championships again in 2023.

However, Petrik will now be even further involved at the Flames moving forward having accepted the role of High Performance Manager.

Ryan Petrik - High Performance Manager

Taking on High Performance Manager role

Petrik has now started in his new role as High Performance Manager with Rockingham combined with continuing to coach the Flames men's team in the NBL1 West competition and the Perth Lynx in the WNBL.

Having coached both the women's and men's teams to championships at NBL1 level, Petrik now wants to set his focus on helping to improve Rockingham at WABL level.

"It's something I've always had some interest in doing," Petrik said.

"Obviously I started out as a WABL coach in Rockingham and then Claydo dragged me over to the men's program and I spent two years there, then two years under Utley and Shannon Conrad convinced me over to coach the women's NBL1 side.

"I haven't really been involved in WABL since then and our focus was on becoming strong in the SBL at the time having been a club that had never gone close to winning.

RBRA Met With The Cook Labor Government

This morning the Cook Labour Government committed to a $10 Million contribution to the Rockingham Basketball community.

$2 Million of this will be allocated to the City of Rockingham to replace the existing roof and deliver other important upgrades to address poor ventilation for a number of courts at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

A further $8 Million has been allocated towards construction of new courts at our venue, plugging the much needed gap in our community.

This development will ensure that Mike Barnett remains fit for purpose for our growing basketball community.

“The Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association has been working closely with the City of Rockingham on the expansion of available indoor courts at Mike Barnett Sporting Complex.

The board and I are delighted with the commitment to the Rockingham Community, by the Cook Labor Government. I look forward to working with the City of Rockingham to continue to collaboratively create positive outcomes for our basketball community”

⁃    Warren Boucaut, 2023 President of the RBRA.
