The Bizlink Flames Needs You
The BizLink Flames are looking for the next dedicated person to take over the running and coaching of the All Abilities Basketball Group, hear below the requirements from the founder and current coach Jonathan Foster.
“Due to work commitments and personal reasons, I am looking for a suitable person to replace me in the above capacity.
The Bizlink Rockingham Flames All Abilities Basketball Group is a program developed for disability basketball players of all abilities, as the name suggests.
The group plays on a Tuesday night between 6-8pm at Mike Barnett Sports Complex, due to court availability this is the only day available with a suitable time slot. Our players are used to this now as it hasn’t changed since the group was started in 2011.
I have structured the group around 1 Hour Skills Teaching and then 1 hour of games made up from the players there on the night. this usually consists of 3 teams depending on numbers. If we have an odd number of players, I normally get carers and the coach to play to make up the numbers.
This group also plays at carnivals against other similar groups from around Perth on 3 occasions throughout the year. These are organised by BWA and played at Bendat Basketball Centre in Floreat on a Sunday between 10am – 2pm. These are called ‘Everyone’s Game Carnivals’ and consist of an A an B Grade section. These carnivals also double as a conduit for A grade players who wish to further their basketball, to be notices and to then be invited to try out for our state teams for men and women, who play in a national carnival each year called The Ivor Burge National Championships For Players With a Disability.
So, in conclusion, the right person will need to have:
- A willingness to improve the lives of disability basketballers
- Be available for 2 hours a week to run the group
- Have a working with children card or an ability to get one
- Be available for 3 Sundays a year for ‘Everyone’s Game Carnivals’
- Be able to communicate with The Rockingham Flames and Sponsors
This group has been an outstanding group to be involved with and you will get great support from the parents and carers who bring the players along. The right person will be rewarded with loyalty and respect.”
