WABL

About The Program

The Flames WABL Basketball Program currently comprises of more than 20 teams, both male and female in grades under 12/ 14/ 16/ 18/ 20. The best of each grade try out at the beginning of each year to represent their age group, throughout the season. Our teams represent the Rockingham Flames at a state level and compete against other associations from all across Western Australia every Sunday within the Western Australia Basketball League (WABL). This is an elite representative competition.

This is the competition from which Western Australia state representatives are identified and continues to be the corner stone from where NBL1 men and women’s players emerge from.

After the introduction of a grading system by Basketball WA (BWA), our teams compete at State Championships where their results determine the grade they will compete in throughout the season, usually occurring in February or March each year.

Grading has allowed an increase in the amount of WA Basketball League divisions in each age group. This is enabling more player participation across the state, however, don't be fooled, competition is tough.

Flames also have two senior teams who compete in the WABL Championship Women's and Men's competition (formally known as NBL1 Division 1), which runs alongside both our NBL1 and WABL programs giving great development opportunities to all involved and acts as a steppingstone between WABL and NBL1.

Throughout the year we run many development programs catered specifically to our WABL athletes, coaches and referees to increase and uphold the prestige and talent in Rockingham. We aim to provide The Rockingham Flames WABL community the best opportunity to compete at the highest standard.

For the Flames, being involved in WABL sees over 300 home games held at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex between April – September, bringing visitors from all across the state into our stadium and is a major program within our club.
